I tried to comment but it didn't seem to work so I will try again. I just got Money Magazine today and found your article. I haven't even finished reading it and I knew I needed to find you online and suggest the Pope Paul Institute. NaPro specialized gynecologists are a small but growing field, and they approach gynecological problems and infertility totally differently than IVF practitioners and they have had success for some couples that were unsuccessful with IVF. Give them a try http://www.popepaulvi.com/. I know they have changed a lot of lives, and a lot of their services can be covered by insurance because they more thoroughly investigate and treat the many underlying issues that can lead to infertility. Give them a try! I hope they will be the answer to your prayers!
You are welcome! Hopefully they will be a more successful and less expensive route. I know a lot of people have been very happy with the care they received there as well as the results.
Carrie and Dan: My husband and I were both 41 when hoping to start a family, and proceeded with 5 rounds of IUI and then two rounds of IVF, none of which were successful. We were both pretty down after this, but a few weeks after our last IVF we did some of the old fashioned baby making and ended up being pregnant! We called the drs and they said it just could not be true, but sure enough 9 months later I gave birth to a healthy baby boy. I know from experience it is virtually impossible to forget about the mission of starting a family and enjoy the company of your spouse, but in the end somehow, someway that is the only thing that worked for us. Just something to think about as you continue your journey, I know a positive story here and there helped us. You are both in my thoughts and prayers, and I wish you the best of luck.
Carrie and Dan- My mother read about your story in Money Magazine and sent me the link to your blog. I too live in Atlanta and have been a patient of Dr. Toledo's. I too have had many failed IUI's and IVF's. I too have gone to an ultrasound and seen a heartbeat, only to have it slow down the next week. It is all so unfair. I started a blog back in January when we came to the realization (after my 4th miscarriage) that we needed a surrogate to create our family. Feel free to check it out at www.jasonandkerri.blogspot.com. If you ever want to talk to someone who gets it, don't hesitate to reach out! Not sure where you live, but we can't be too far away (we live in Grant Park) Either way, best of luck to you guys- you will be in my thoughts!
Hi Kerri, another Kerri in Atlanta struggling with infertility...small world ;). I've started reading your blog and already identify with so many of your stories.....especially the one of you at the bday party and seeing the pregnant girl. There have been so many times when my friends who were struggling with me to get pregnant turn up pregnant shortly after. Its kinda a sick joke that if you come stand next to me, you will get pregnant. I'm so happy you are getting what you've always wanted bc you will never take that precious boy for granted. I would love to chat about your experience and how you navigated through the financial challenges of surrogacy. Thanks again for reaching out!
Carrie-I'd love to chat! I looked for a way to contact you directly on your blog but couldn't find one. There's one on mine so feel free to contact me that way and maybe we can set up a time to meet. Hang in there....
